What is Runny Nose / Post Nasal Drip?
Runny nose / Post-Nasal Drip is defined as inflammation of the nasal mucosa causing excessive mucus secretion (runny nose), congestion, nasal itching, and sneezing. Runny nose/Post-Nasal Drip can be either allergic, non-allergic, or mixed rhinitis (allergic and non-allergic).
Nasal nerves regulate functions of the nose such as nasal secretions. It is thought that interrupting these nerves results in the reduction of nasal symptoms such as runny nose (rhinorrhea) and nasal congestion.
Symptoms of Post Nasal Drip
Symptoms of Runny nose/Post-Nasal Drip include constant runny nose, drainage down your throat (post-nasal drip), and/or congestion. If you tried multiple medications without success, you may have non-allergic (vasomotor) rhinitis. ClariFix® could be your simple solution.
- Post-Nasal Drip (meaning the drip itself)
- Nasal itching
- Morning headaches
What is ClariFix®?
ClariFix is a clinically proven, minimally innovative cryotherapy (localized freezing) that uses a cooling probe to freeze a small, inflamed area in the back of the nose. ClariFix is an effective chronic rhinitis treatment. By freezing the tissue, it helps relieve the inflammation and pain.
In-Office ClariFix Cryotherapy for Chronic Rhinitis
Symptoms of Runny nose/Post-Nasal Drip are caused by out-of-balance nerves, which may be sending too many signals to your nose, telling it to drip, run and swell more than necessary. Using cryotherapy, the ClariFix® device delivers cold temperatures to these out-of-balance nerves in the back of the nose, interrupting the signals and reducing the symptoms of Runny Nose / Post-Nasal Drip.
Most patients begin to see improvement between 2 and 6 weeks post-treatment.
In a clinical study, patients reported a significant decrease in runny nose and nasal congestion with 4 out of 5 patients reporting long-lasting symptom relief.
You can typically expect to spend about an hour in our office.
You may experience slight pressure, a cooling sensation in the nose and/or around the molars, or some discomfort during and/or after the treatment.
Dr. Brodner will start by numbing the nose with an anesthetic. The ClariFix® device is then placed in the back of the nose, and the cold therapy is applied.
Most patients typically return to normal activity the same day. As with any nasal treatment, you may experience increased sensitivity, congestion, and some discomfort after the treatment.
The most common side effects associated with ClariFix® cryotherapy are temporary increased congestion and transient pain or discomfort.
Adverse events were those usually associated with post-cryosurgery in nasal passageways and included: pain/discomfort, headache, facial pain, bleeding, dry nose, ear blockage. By day 90, symptoms had either resolved or rated as mild.
Dr. Brodner will discuss your current medications with you and determine a treatment plan specific to you.
Dr. Brodner will discuss your medical history with you, including previous surgeries, and determine a treatment plan specific to you.
